Della Rosenthal is one amazing woman!  She is the mother of two great kids, active in her community, a blogger and a woman who saw a need and took action.  She is the recipient of the 2007 Regency Community Hero Award and the 2008 Portland Business Journal 40 under 40 award.

Della started her professional life in the financial world and for many years served on the Board of the North Portland Nurse Practioncer’s Clinic.   That’s when she had her Ah-Ha moment.  People were getting their medical needs met but many lacked the basic necessities to keep their lives going.  This sparked Della’s desire to make a difference.

In 2005 Della teamed up with her sister to create a non-profit called Sisters of the Community.  They collected household items, clothes, car seats, blankets – pretty much everything that some people had too much of and distributed these items to others who needed them desperately.  In the first 18 months, Della and her sister distributed over 20,000 items!   Now, here’s where the “brilliant” part comes in…Donor’s Resource was launched earlier this year.  It’s simple, it’s online, it’s the perfect solution!  Donor’s Resource is an online hub that connects donors with nonprofits in need of goods and resources.  Essentially, it’s the ‘Craigslist’ for nonprofit giving.

With over 160 non-profit organizations already signed up, Donors Resource is always in need of items.  Check it out at DonorsResource.org and get the full scoop.  This is your chance to make space in your home and make a difference in the life of someone who needs a hand.

We caught up with Della to find out what keeps her flourishing…

What is your favorite age and why? I turned 40 this year and feel equally fantastic whether I’m dressed for a cocktail party or hanging out in a beat-up sweatshirt.

Who is your hero? My sister, Deborah is my hero.  She beats up challenge and hard times with one hand tied behind her back.

What is your favorite quote? “Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never forget anything that made you smile.”  source unknown

What keeps you Flourishing? Remembering that life is not a dress rehearsal.

If you were a pair of shoes what kind would you be and why? I’d be a pair of strappy high healed sandals because they are fun and go with everything.
