Cindy Aggson lives life with gusto!  She is the managing partner & chief evangelist for the Carpe Viam Group, a strategic marketing firm with a passion for helping small businesses thrive.  For Aggson, Carpe Viam – which means Seize the Road in Latin – is more than a business name, it is her motto.  As a runner, img_3616_2spint tri-athelete, and mother of three big-hearted active little boys, she believes in setting goals, holding herself accountable, and achieving results…one step at a time.

After being in corporate marketing and business development for 19 years and traveling around the world for her work, Cindy currently lives in Sherwood where she is a “mompreneur” and married to her soulmate Roger.   Cindy has two nicknames “glow worm” and “the Energizer bunny”.   She’s definitely energy in motion and her positive, can-do attitude is contagious!  Cindy’s gift is helping the rest of us see the possibility of our dreams and holding the intention for our success.

In 2007 Cindy, an avid runner, founded the Give n’ Gobble walk, run and food drive.  This first time event, held on Thanksgiving Day 2007, was a huge success with over 500 runners and walkers raising $5,000 and donating 500 pounds of food for The Helping Hands food bank.  Mark your calendars, gather your family and friends and join Cindy and 1,000 of her friends this Thanksgiving morning for the second annual Give n’ Gobble. It’s a very good thing!

We wanted to find out what keeps Cindy flourishing.  Here’s what she had to say:

Who is your hero? My she-ro is my mom, Ann Barber.  She was an amazing inspiration in my life, she was a single-parent while she put herself through college and grad school.  She made me believe I could achieve anything I set my heart on, taught me that kindness matters, and proved that one person can make a difference.  She passed away when she was only 53, I miss her terribly!  Thanks to her I take it to heart that life is often too short so we should try to make the most of each day and show people how much they mean to us while we can.  She used to say “Coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous” and I’m so grateful for all the coincidences in my life.

What is your favorite quote? Quotes inspire me, actually maybe I should say fuel me so it is difficult to choose only one.  Here are my top 3:
” Kindness is never forgotten.” -unknown
“Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals and charge after them in an unstoppable manner.”-Les Brown
“Every day do something that scares you.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

What keeps you flourishing? Running, my gratitude journal, long talks with dear friends, the sound of three pairs little feet running around my house, laughing with my husband, and meeting new “soul sisters”!

I can’t wait to…. run another marathon!  One day at our gym I saw sign that said “If you knew you couldn’t fail, what one thing would you try to accomplish?”  My first thought was “A marathon!”  Then I thought “Yikes, where did that come from?”  I had never run more than 5 miles in my life, just had a baby, and could barely run a couple block without feeling like I was dying. That sign surfaced a goal I didn’t even realize I had, but I held on to it.  I ran my first marathon in 2007 and would love to do another one in under 4 hours!  To me there is no better buzz than accomplishing something that you previously thought was impossible.

If you were a pair of shoes what kind would you be and why? I wish I could say sexy leopard-print stilettos, but they would slow me down so I’d be running shoes with silver streaks that look fast even when you are standing still.  I spend most days in running shoes, they allow me to stay healthy, keep up with my boys, and pursue my goals with passion…Carpe Viam!

“Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead

I have always held the belief that when “we the people” put our minds and our hearts together for good, good things really can happen.    This truth was never more evident than when a group of amazing women came together on November 2nd at the Oregon Golf Club to hear Vicky Trabosh speak on The Power of Your Journey.

Vicky & Nancy
Itafari

Vicky Trabosh is changing the lives of the people of Rwanda itafari by itafari (brick by brick).  Her powerful presentation was truly an inspiration.  Speaking from her heart and sharing her stories and photographs of her most recent trip to Rwanda on behalf of her non-profit organization, The Itafari Foundation, Vicky touched each of our hearts.   We laughed, we cried, we learned so much about Vicky’s personal journey, the journey of the people of Rwanda and even our own journey.  We can all make a difference and we can do it itafari by itafari ~ just like Vicky.

Thank you to all the amazing women who shared this afternoon.  Together we raised over $2,000 for Itafari.  That’s a lot of bricks!
