Don’t you just love those two words!  Makes you giggle just to say them.  Our upcoming Flourish event is all about being “tickled pink”, “in the pink” and all things pink & girlie – pampering, playing, indulging, shopping, eating, drinking, girlfriends, chatting, and laughing.  We’ve got it all put together into one fabulously fun afternoon in Portland’s South Waterfront at the beautiful Rilassi Coffee House.    Tickled Pink is for women of all ages who are ready to carve out a little bit of me time and get their PINK on.   Hope you can join us!

Here’s an invitation with more details or go to the Flourish website and sign up.

deandra-retouched-whimsyDeandra is a role model for flourishing women!   She’s an amazing creative spirit with a courageous heart and a wicked sense of humor who celebrates life and lives it fully each and every day.  We asked her to share just a few of the more interesting moments of her life so far and here’s what she told us…

I’ve sold lingerie, worked a suicide hotline, was a barmaid at a Renaissance festival, read tarot cards and performed as a belly dancer. I have also been a wife, mother, feminist, artist, minister, writer, ritualist, teacher—the list just keeps growing! I follow my passions and have become a collector of experiences. I’ve never been content to let life come to me…maybe because I’m impatient, or maybe because I’m a bit of a control freak.

Being diagnosed with breast cancer helped bring this pattern into sharp relief. Prior to the diagnosis I thought I was searching for something in particular…and after the diagnosis, I realized that I was just searching. I like the act of exploring…I like my passions and they don’t have to “be productive” or have a point. I can just enjoy them.

Giving myself the freedom to play and to follow my interests has led me to reimagine both my life and my work. My current list of things that tickle my fancy include being a part of Pink Phoenix dragon boat team, organizing the super cool annual Clan Mothers Retreat on Halloween weekend, becoming a filmmaker, anything to do with PhotoShop, and the color pink. You might think I would be tired of pink considering it’s association with breast cancer, but in fact, I actually like pink more since my diagnosis. I’m working on a photography project about the color pink…can’t wait to see what I come up with! Check out my blog to see some of the projects I’ve been working on…http://dillydally.demicaro.com.

My new business, Butterfly Underground, is still underground so to speak. In a few months you will be able to see it take flight. Stay tuned!

Who is my hero? I have to admit that I adore Nancy Drew and Wonder Woman! If I could be an Amazon Princess (with cool go-go boots) and a popular detective, I would be ecstatic!

What is my favorite quote? I love quotes and picking just one is practically impossible. The one that makes me laugh is “The difference between ‘involvement’ and ‘commitment’ is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was ‘involved’ but the pig was ‘committed’.”

What keeps you flourishing? Taking time in between projects to rest and renew. I tend to keep busy, so I greatly enjoy curling up with a book and a cup of tea and just relaxing.

If I were a pair of shoes… I would be a pair of Candies (fabulous heels that I wore in high school). They were made of wood candies-shoes and leather, substantial and yet sexy. And they made the greatest tapping noise when walking!

I can’t wait to… I can’t wait to launch the Betty Society, a not-so secret, secret society that I created 6 years ago and now want to take public (sort of!) It makes me giggle, and that’s enough for me.

“Sometime in your life, you will go on a journey.  It will be the longest journey you have ever taken.  It is the journey to find yourself.” Katherine Sharp

goldfish jumping out of the water

If you are anything like me, you probably always thought that only a few special people were artistic or creative and no matter how hard you tried, you weren’t ever going to be one of “them”.   Personally, I always thought creative and artistic were interchangeable.  I only thought of being creative in the artistic sense.    I have dabbled in all manner of artistic/creative pursuits (water color painting, photography, pottery to name a few).  I always started with high hopes that this time my hidden artist would emerge, but after a short time, I gave up in dismay convinced that there was no hope for me.  I just wasn’t a creative person.

Well, who knew then how wrong I was!  Creative thinking has little to do with your ability to paint a perfect still life.  In fact there has been a lot of research done on creativity lately and it appears that our capacity for creativity – our brainpower – is much greater than we could ever imagine.    Apparently we have ALL been gifted with a birthright of unlimited creative potential.   The key is to recognize our own potential and then figure out how to tap into the well.

Creativity comes from an open mind, an ability to look at things from a different perspective, and from a willingness to take risks and experience failure.  Creative thinking occurs when we challenge our long held assumptions and realize there is often more than one right answer.   Next time you are faced with a problem, consider asking yourself “How would I look at this situation if I was six years old?”  You’ll get the most amazing insight and sometimes…just the right answer.

We’re having so much fun with Wordle.   It’s a fun online site where you can create “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes.  It’s word play for adults and frankly, we might be spending just a little  too much time there.  There’s something magical about seeing how the words come together.    Make them for inspiration, for gifts, and for fun.

We created this word cloud from our Flourish manifesto.  Cool eh?

Go to wordle and make some beautiful words of your own.

Patti Keating is the inspiration behind Intentions Coaching & Training, her lifestyle business that helps entrepreneurs create pattisoftdescwealth and abundance by expressing their true purpose and creating their own rich and prosperous lifestyle business.

Patti loves to travel and learn from cutting edge thought leaders in the personal transformation industry.  With her children at her side, life is an adventure and the world is their playground.  You might find her visiting her daughter in a Youth Hostel in Bali or exploring the depths of the Thurston Lava Tubes on the big island of Hawaii with her youngest sons.  Wherever she is, whether working or playing, there is learning and fun to be had!

Patti is one very busy woman, but she agreed to spend a few minutes with us so we could learn more about what keeps this successful dynamo flourishing.

Who is your hero? My friend and mentor, James Ray!  He inspires me to play BIG in life.  I respect how he just goes after his vision, and in the face of both success and failure, raving fans and mudslinging skeptics, stays true to his belief of himself and his message of personal transformation.

What is your favorite quote? This changes frequently, but today I am embracing “You can’t see what you can’t see.”  by my good friend Mary Kay Morgan.  It reminds me to look through new eyes, expect the unexpected, try on different perspectives, stay curious and ask for help in finding what I want.

If you were a pair of shoes, what kind would you be and why? I would be a beautiful pair of floral Hawaiian flip-flops.  Open, versatile, flexible, easy to be with and comfortable, yet still cute with a dress.

What keeps you flourishing? There are two things.  My excitement about the transformation the world is experiencing.  It is such an amazing time to be alive.  Every moment that I have with my children nurtures my soul, they are the greatest gifts I could ever have been honored to receive and having the opportunity to mirror their greatness back to them allows me to bloom!

I can’t wait to… Launch my next Mastermind Group in Palm Springs this spring.  It is my favorite experience to take people through.  I am also very excited to be moving into our new lake home in April.  Ahhhh…life is so good!

Nothing feels better than a long, deep-tissue massage.   If you’re like us, you probably think that an hour on the massage table, the aroma of ylang-ylang, the dim lights and theMassage Clinic soft music…are well, pretty close to heaven on earth.  And, just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it turns out that getting a massage may be more than just a highly pleasurable indulgence.  It is actually beneficial to your health.  A recent article in Real Age explains how it works.

So, next time you are getting a massage to ease those sore muscles, it might just be that you are reducing your blood pressure at the same time.  You may even see a short term drop in your heart rate.  How good is that!

Don’t you love it when something so good turns out to be something so good for you?   Ok, time to try the hot stone massage!
